How dentists can benefit from Google’s latest social network – Google+

It will be the next big thing in social media, Entrepreneur.com columnist Chris Brogan predicts. But while Google+ has a respectable number of accounts, the site lags behind other social networking sites in popularity. Still, Google+’s integration with Google’s search engine makes it a valuable tool for any dental office.

One major benefit to Google+, PC World is predicting, is an increased ranking in search results. According to the magazine, the speculation is that Google+ results will be featured as part of Google’s live feeds (Realtime Search), filling the void left after Google allowed its contract with Twitter to expire earlier this year. If this happens, it will put you at an advantage if you choose Google+ for your dental office’s social media marketing.

Additionally, Google+’s +1 system allows visitors to your Google+ page to announce approval of what you’ve posted. This means your content will appear on the page of everyone who recommends you by pressing that button, increasing your exposure. You may also notice that +1s show up in Google search results next to relevant websites, making those sites a little more eye-catching. This could lead to higher click rates – which is one of the many factors in the formula Google uses to rank websites.

What does this mean for your dental office? If you’re still struggling to navigate the murky waters of social media, you may wonder how Google+ can help you. Should you give up Facebook/Twitter/LinkedIn and switch to Google+, or do all four in combination?

What Google+ provides is search engine exposure. As the long-reigning number one search engine in America, Google is still the first stop for most consumers when making purchasing decisions. Since it appears Google+ will help boost your business’s search engine rankings, having a page with relevant content could be among the most important social networking decisions you make.

Still, with a limited number of hours in each day, how can you make room for one more social networking site? The good news is, you don’t have to. Google provides a way for you to post one update to Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ at the same time. Simply click here to download the plug-in, available in the Google Chrome Store  (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/kcglanoaanmpjcajbkpeajcaimokahpd), and you’ll be keeping up with three social networking accounts  at once.

We’ll keep you updated once business pages are officially available and you can establish a Google+ page for your dental practice.
