It’s Time for Dentists to Develop a Mobile Strategy

The statistics are in. It’s time to start developing a mobile strategy. The following statistics are based on research presented in the Bootstrapper’s Guide to the Mobile Web and their free, supporting infographic.  (All sources are cited at the bottom of the infographic.)
    • Based on current growth, it is estimated there will be 788 million mobile-only internet users by 2015.  In fact, by 2015, there will be nearly as many mobile devices as there are people on the earth!
    • By the end of next year,  browser-enhanced mobile phones will exceed 1.82 billion.  As businesses consider the future of website development and design, mobile considerations are at the forefront of marketing strategy.  According to statisticians, mobile internet browsing is set to surpass Desktop browsing by 2014.
    • In anticipation of these trends,  dental practices should immediately begin to leverage mobile sites to take advantage of the current behaviors of smartphone users.  Virtually every (95%) smartphone owner uses their phone to look for local information.  But the most surprising statistic is that 90% of smartphone searches result in an action, with 77% contacting the local business and 61% immediately calling the business.
If you are looking to develop a new mobile site, consider the following pieces of advice from Bootstrap:
    1. Keep your mobile site simple. This means avoiding ”clutter,”  wide (horizontal) menus, and scrolling.
    2. Make your mobile site fast.  This means eliminating unnecessary images and optimizing your site for lightning-fast downloads. Experts recommend that pages should load in 4 seconds.
    3.  Don’t use Flash.  For now Flash cannot be used on many smartphones.  But don’t worry, with HTML 5 and javascript technology, Flash interactivity is easily replaced.
    4. Use the native OS features including click-to-call and Google Maps.
    5. Use responsive designs for your wesite.  A website that looks great on mobile phones, tablets, laptops and desktops is key.  Design for every audience. Bullseye Media can help you with redesigning your websitefor the mobile future.
TIP:  Take advantage of mobile technology on your forms, signage and print advertisements.  Smart-phone scannable QR codes make it easy for patients to find key services on your website like new patient forms, reviews, facebook/twitter pages and appointment forms.
